The Book House, Inc has operated for over 20 years, as an open shop, a booksearch company, and an on-Line Store under the ownership of bookseller Michelle Barron and her family.

We are located in a charming Historic Victorian House, built in 1865, about 15 minutes from downtown St. Louis where an eclectic mix of quality rare, out-of-print, new, and used books are tucked into nine rooms on three floors of winding staircases, filled with nooks and crannies and a dungeon we call the "Bargain Basement". Our house is patrolled by two store cats Chaucer and Blake as well as at least one documented ghost.

Our extensive used, rare, and out-of-print holdings have been collected over many years, and represent some of the finest books available in the Midwest. We have especially wonderful selections of children's and illustrated books, 19th and 20th century literature, poetry, drama, Military History, Art, Architecture, and Photography. Our science fiction, cookbook, philosophy, religion, and mystery collections are huge!

Although we began by selling used and rare books, The Book House has evolved to carry a wide selection of new and front list books as well. We work with distributors, publishers, and many individual authors to carry an eclectic selection of quality new books, small press, self published, and limited editions as well as most of the Independent Booksellers Booksense Picks, a great selection of art, children's and adult literature, St. Louis and Missouri items. (We can order ANYTHING!) We often host author booksignings, bookclubs, and events. Check our calendar for upcoming happenings!

Our website has sprung up as a new way to reach our customers and a tool to help you in your quest for great books! Search OUR INVENTORY database through left search bars or browse catalogues on the lower right. At last count we estimated that our 35,000 books listed here are less than 10% of what we actually have IN STOCK. We BUY books every day (hundreds - sometimes thousands - per week) and catalogue SOME of them each week, but we will never have them ALL (or even close to all of them) in the computer. So browse our listings, place an order or request through the SECURE SHOPPING CART - but if you don't see something listed here - we might still have it, and we almost definately can get it, so CONTACT US, or come by our shop!

We also have a BOOKS in PRINT search which is GREAT! You can browse all the latest titles (as well as thousands of obscure ones). Use the upper right search bar, type in author, title, and/or keywords. Click on the blue titles for pictures and review information. These are BRAND NEW BOOKS that are available through our distributor and we can get them quickly (usually within 5 to 7 days). You can pick your order up at our store, or have us ship directly to you

We have an extensive International Search Service. Our staff has been doing book searches for more than 18 years and have many trade connections to help locate hard to find items.
